How Well Have I Served Jesus?

1 Samuel 15:23 New King James Version (NKJV)

23 For rebellion is as the sin of [a]witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
He also has rejected you from being king.”
In consideration of this Maundy Thursday, I am forced to ask myself , "How well have I served Jesus?". Oh, there may be the actions of humility via the washing of feet or giving to the poor, but what motivation is my heart? I look back on my life and find so many times when I made decisions based upon what I wanted and just assumed it was His will because it was my desire to do something , not a bad act, maybe even something otherwise good and fine, just maybe not for me. Following the will of Jesus is many times a battle within myself, and I dare say within you also.
The Author of deceit and evil does not usually pull us away from the will of God by large obvious acts of wrongful sinful endeavors but by the small decisions that seem meaningless otherwise, or even acts of good that are not within God's will for us, it may be a drawing away, tying up time and resources that need to be allocated in another way. "Hath God said?", is the timeless question that led to the spiritual death of Eve and Adam, the seeds of doubt that once pondered will ultimately lead to an act of defiance and rebellion.
My younger man was subject to being led out of God's will into a wider path of my own desires. As the scripture above addresses the desires of Saul to keep some wonderful livestock and booty from the Amalekites, as told in Deuteronomy. Having disobeyed, it cost Saul his kingdom. Evil will always be knocking at our doors, all to often in the guise of a Disneyland of our own desires. Be careful to always take careful consideration of the small and large decisions in your life.

Ephesians 6:18 New King James Version (NKJV)

18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
